I have entered and rode many sportives. The organisation at the start/end was extremely good, with a great atmosphere. Nice to see Mark Cavendish.
A very well organised event coming off the back mof the Tour of Britain. Start and Finish were presented very professionally. Unfortunately one of the feed stations was poorly sign posted and located. 3 feed stations for the 50 mile route was probably too many, 1 maybe 2 at most would have sufficed. Great opportunity support riding for Mark Cavendish MBE as part of the Royal Navy Team. Altogether a great event that can be even better next time.
I really enjoyed my day from Mark Cavendish starting everyone off in the morning to the free and tasty burger on completion.
The route was very tough with around 9000ft of elevation gain and some nasty wind making life hard.
As I was on my own it would have been nice to have had more riders on the route, it got a little lonely at points.
Feed stations had very little choice with only water to go in bottles. One type of energy gel (one flavour), one type of biscuit and some cut up fruit. It could have been a lot better.
Would definitely do this event again.
I have done several sportives and this was one of the best. The start and finish were well serviced and organised, people were very helpful and the burger at the finish was good. Great to See Mark C there. We were supurbly lucky with the weather - sunny and cold.
I loved a lot of the scenery but was a little disappointed the we couldn't ride more in the peak district - I did the 100 mile route and it was only in the peaks for about 25%. There were some wonderful roads though.
The first feed station for the 100miler was a little too far at 36 miles or so - it would have been better around 25 - 30. As others have commented the feed stations weren't that varied so could have been better.
All and all a great experience and would happily recommend it.
This was my first sportive and I really enjoyed it. As primarily a MTBer, my road experience has been limited to commuting and triathlons, so it was a revelation to ride such a long distance, especially since a minor navigational snafu meant we mixed the two routes up for a middle 75 mile distance...
It seemed a shame that we didn't spend more time in the Peak District, but the roads chosen were surprisingly quiet and the key ride along the ridge, not long after the second station, was tremendous.
I really appreciated the organisation. The feed stations were a novelty - it was great to have plentiful fuel on hand as we rode as I'm accustomed to having to carry everything on my back for the day - and the greeting at the finish was great. Never has a burger tasted so wonderful!
